Picross S Review

Fans of the picture puzzles featured in the Picross series are certainly not to be disappointed by Picross S for the Nintendo Switch. The logic puzzles, also known as nonograms. A continuation of the Picross e series for the Nintendo 3DS, this game is full of wonderful music and puzzles and plenty of features that will keep you solving for hours.

The pictures are mostly simple sprite art, although completing the later levels will reward you with some truly beautiful pixels. I wouldn’t want to spoil the reader of all the great art, but here is an example of the picture from the first puzzle, a key.

There are several options available in the Options screen. Hint Roulette is a feature that gives you a free row and column randomly chosen at the beginning of the stage, giving you a head start on breaking into the puzzle. Navigation allows you to change the way certain lines are displayed. Autocorrect Mistakes will automatically let you know if you have entered a cell incorrectly, as opposed to just letting you continue to solve with your badly placed pixel until it completely ruins your solve. I prefer to have this option off, personally. Cursor settings can also be adjusted, the speed and also if the cursor will loop around to the other side of a row or column instead.

There aren’t as many modes as other titles that followed this one, but you can’t really blame it for that since its the first one. I really enjoyed this title!

What do you think? Have you played any of the games from this modern classic series?
